- - - - EDITOR'S NOTE ON - - - - Over 1,400 stories were submitted to our 20-Minute Stories contest. We expected 300, maybe 500, but 1,400—stunning. We thank you for your patience as we read and savored your work, and now that the reading and judging are over and the winners have been contacted, we are ready to share what we believe to be the finest of the lot. We'll be publishing a handful of honorable mention stories, along with the top three prizewinners over the coming weeks. Special thanks goes to the many people who helped out with the reading and judging process: Julia Glassman, Rachel Ferry, Roy Kesey, Catherine Dmuchovsky, Susan Henderson, Kim Chinquee, Stephany Aulenback, B. R. Cohen, Kevin Guilfoile, and Kevin Dolgin. Enjoy the 20-Minute Stories. March 22, 2004
