[We recently received the notice below, about an event in Chicago to help the excellent magazine the Baffler recover from the fire that recently destroyed their offices. Please attend if you can, and spread the word. Thank you. The McSweeney's Representatives] "The Baffler Magazine and Open City Magazine are co-sponsoring a Baffler Benefit party at the Hideout, Saturday, June 2nd. Open City editors Joanna Yas and Tom Beller and Baffler editors and staff Tom Frank, Dave Mulcahey, Emily Vogt and Greg Lane will be there enjoying music from Chicago's Downwinders and Archer Prewitt, along with special guests. Starts at 10:00 pm and goes 'til 3 am, with a $10.00 donation at the front door. "This show was originally a party to celebrate two great independent magazines during the festivities surrounding Printer's Row Bookfair and the Book Expo America. But on April 25, in the early morning, the Baffler office burned down. Losses were devastating, and the Baffler needs help to rebuild, so, with Tim and Katie from the Hideout insisting, this show turned into a benefit, and the door charge goes to The Baffler Recovery Fund. "In addition to the music, you can check out the latest Open City and get the first look at a still warm from the presses Baffler #14. Tom Frank and Tom Beller will read, the crowd will include all sorts of fine publishing and writing figures from around the country, and the music will be great. We'd love to see you there."
