Innovative New Oreo is Interactive - Turns Milk Blue - - - - EAST HANOVER, N.J., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Nabisco Biscuit Company takes snacking to a new level with Oreo Magic Dunkers, an innovative new Oreo that interacts with kids to create swirls of blue milk when dunked. Beginning April 24 a limited edition of Oreo Magic Dunkers will be available in stores nationwide. The specially marked 20-ounce packages have a suggested retail price of $3.69. "When you've been the category leader for nearly 88 years, as Oreo has, it becomes increasingly important to reinvent yourself to stay top-of-mind with consumers," says Oreo Business Director Archie Mack. "Because Oreo fans have a great sense of fun and adventure when it comes to eating the cookie, we have the opportunity to be extremely creative when developing ideas that, ultimately, can impact the entire snacking industry." Designed with kids in mind, Nabisco technologists spent more than a year perfecting this unique blue milk effect, which does not change the milk or the cookies' flavor. The more you dunk, the bluer your milk will turn. "The blue food coloring that is used in Oreo Magic Dunkers is safe and easily washes off hands and fades from mouths just like the coloring used in ice pops and candies," says Nabisco Senior Cookie Technologist Jessica Aronofsky. Nabisco's market research shows that the two most popular ways of eating an Oreo are twisting the cookie apart or dunking it in a cold glass of milk. In fact: -- 35 percent of respondents twist their Oreo cookies, while 30 percent dunk and 10 percent nibble -- 71 percent of all nibblers are women -- Women prefer twisting, men prefer dunking -- Children's inquisitive nature makes them predominantly twisters, but they often re-sandwich the cookie, after licking the creme center, to dunk. -- Chicago and Philly are dunking cities, as are Buffalo and New Orleans -- New York City, Las Vegas and Nashville are twisting towns "For people who love to dunk their Oreo, and even for those who want to convert for a limited time, this Oreo will add a fun, new dimension to the experience," Mack says. Nabisco also knows that there are Oreo purists who enjoy the famous chocolate sandwich cookie in its simplest form. For them, original Oreo cookies will always be available in supermarkets nationwide. The launch of Oreo Magic Dunkers will be supported with a television advertising campaign created by FCB New York that begins airing on April 24, 2000. In addition, a freestanding insert (FSI) in Sunday newspaper circulars will appear in May.
