- - - - CLEVELAND, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- "Have you ever wondered What Jesus Would Do on His Birthday?" This question is asked on a birthday card from one of American Greetings newest religious card lines, "What Would Jesus Do?" (WWJD). Named after the popular "WWJD" slogan, this and other new religious card lines, are indicators of a social trend to return to religion. American Greetings identified the trend, "The Search for Spiritual Meaning," as part of its annual All New American Way communication research. "People are increasingly returning to spirituality as a focal point of their lives," said Cindy Schuerger, Alternative Card program administrator. More than 58% of Americans say religion is very important in their daily life, and 83% describe themselves as "Christian" according to a recent CNN/USA Today poll. "These statistics are clearly major components of the American lifestyle which have prompted American Greetings to create two new Christian card lines," Schuerger added. "Everyday Blessings" cards are illustrated with soft watercolor and adorable animal designs, and include inspirational cards for birthdays, encouragement, thinking of you, anniversaries, weddings, and other occasions. By contrast, are the Company's bright, bold and more contemporary "What Would Jesus Do?" cards. The "What Would Jesus Do on His Birthday" card reads, "Have You Ever Wondered What Jesus Would Do on His Birthday? Would He start out giving thanks for the day and for the people in His life? Would He keep on whispering little prayers all day long? Would He have cake, ice cream, and presents like everyone else? Nobody can really say for sure. But whatever Jesus did on His birthday, He'd be very happy knowing that His Heavenly Father was right there rejoicing with Him ... Hope your birthday's happy, and hope you're blessed with a very real sense of just how near the Lord always is to you -- and just how much He loves you!" Both new card lines include a short Biblical quote on the inside cover page such as, "The Lord is between you and me for ever." 1 Samuel 20:23. Several of the "Everyday Blessings" cards have a tiny guardian angel pin attached. One guardian angel friendship card reads, "Since you're a special friend who means much more than words can say...May your guardian angel keep you safe and always light your way!" The new card lines, "Everyday Blessings" and "What Would Jesus Do?", along with the Company's other religious programs such as "Rainbows of Faith," and "L'Chayim to Life" (Jewish cards) are American Greetings answer to the growth of spirituality in America. The search for spiritual meaning is one of several social and lifestyle trends identified by American Greetings as part of its "All New American Way" product development strategy, which has led to the creation of thousands of new greeting cards geared to changing attitudes. Among the other trends identified by the Company are informal lifestyles, changing family dynamics, and an increased interest in expressing individuality and personal style. American Greetings is the world's largest publicly held creator, manufacturer and distributor of greeting cards and social expression products. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, American Greetings employs more than 21,000 associates around the world and has one of the largest creative studios in the world. SOURCE American Greetings
