- - - - MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- "ROAD TO REDEMPTION," the first comedy release by World Wide Pictures, opens in test markets across the country February 16, bringing the production company back into the theatrical market. "Road to Redemption" opens in test cities beginning February 16. Cities include: Minneapolis; Phoenix; San Antonio; Austin, Texas; Norfolk, Va.; Seattle; Nashville, Tenn.; and Portland, Ore. A second wave of theater releases begins March 9 in the following cities: San Diego; Cincinnati; Denver; Dallas; Fort Worth; Kansas City, Mo.; and Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. This is a fast-paced comedy set on the road between Las Vegas, Nev. and Lake Redemption, Mont. Amanda Tucker (Julie Condra) and her boyfriend Alan Fischer (Jay Underwood) borrow Mob money from her boss and lose it on a fixed horse race. Now they need big money by Friday ... or else. The only person who can help now is a relative stranger -- Amanda's almost forgotten rich grandfather Nathan Tucker, (Pat Hingle). Nathan will help only on one condition -- that Amanda will drive him to his favorite fishing hole in Redemption, Mont. Produced by John Shepherd, co-produced by John Schmidt, and written and directed by Los Angeles native Robert Vernon, this film is a comedy with its heart in the right place. World Wide Pictures is keeping up with the demand for good, clean, thought-provoking films. Having produced over 125 films and nine major motion pictures, World Wide Pictures is reclaiming Billy Graham's passion to reach all audiences, "Early in my ministry, I recognized the fact that not everyone would respond to the Gospel as the result of personal contact through crusades." World Wide Pictures' last nationwide theatrical release was in the late '80s. World Wide Pictures then sold their studio in Los Angeles and moved the corporate headquarters to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Minneapolis. In their new location they continued to produce films by working with independent producers and releasing the films in churches, on home videos, and as made-for-television movies. "Now we're coming back, prudently," said Roger Flessing, director of communications at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. "We are being strategic in our market approach. What happens today with our limited theatrical release of "ROAD TO REDEMPTION" will determine our plans for the future. Our next film is being released in 2002. If our current tests show the market is truly looking for family entertainment with high moral value we will schedule a nationwide theatrical release." ROAD TO REDEMPTION will be nationally televised in June followed by a video and DVD release.
