Fitness Expert and Guinness World Record Holder Fisher Hopes President Bush Will Display Same Sense of Humor as Did Clinton and Gore in 1997 - - - - CHICAGO, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- "What Zorro is to the sword, what Indiana Jones is to the whip, Chicagoan David Fisher is to the jump rope" (Chicago Sun-Times, 11.16.2000). Crowds along the route of the 2001 Inaugural Parade in Washington will be treated to a first by Fisher. Performing alongside the Pro-Form Airborne Jump Rope Team, a two-time gold medal World Championship jump rope team representing the state of Idaho, Fisher, aka "The Rope Warrior(TM)" will premiere a jump rope trick that he created solely for this performance -- "The Hanging Chad." Does it live up to its name? Smiles Fisher, "Some of my most popular tricks are called 'The Pretzel' (my body is in the shape of a pretzel while I jump rope) and "The Houdini," (an escape trick); During 'The Hanging Chad' a small loop of moving jump rope hangs off of my arm -- like a hanging, dangling Chad -- and I will attempt to jump through it." A 37 year-old fitness expert and author who has built an empire out of jumping rope, Fisher is the originator of Ropenastics(TM) an exciting program that incorporates rope jumping, rhythmic gymnastics, dance, martial arts and aerobics into a fun, creative, and beneficial cardiovascular activity, one that he teaches on his new workout and skills videos. He performs his rope jumping feats at over 15 school assemblies per week, reaching over 5,000 kids per week, and has also performed at the Summer 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia, for an audience of over 80,000, including Russian President Boris Yeltsin. In 1997 Fisher journeyed to Malaysia to perform for audiences on behalf of the Malta Energy Challenge. But his biggest thrill to date, says Fisher, was performing for crowds lining the parade route and President Clinton, VP Gore, and their families at the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Parade. "We weren't allowed to stop, so I had to keep moving, doing my routines," muses Fisher. "And when I went into my 'tush-up' routine, where I jump rope while sitting down, (a trick for which Fisher holds the current Guinness World Record -- the ultimate source for all feats strange and remarkable -- jumping 56 tush-ups in one minute) I saw President Clinton nudge VP Gore in amazement. I hope Bush and Cheney enjoy my performance (and consider me as the next Czar on fitness for the President's Council on Physical Fitness) and the trick that I created especially for them, as much as Clinton and Gore seemed to.
