CHICAGO, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- efollett.com, the pioneer in selling textbooks via the Internet and the largest online campus bookstore based on Fall 1999 sales, and Peapod (Nasdaq: PPOD), the nation's leading Internet grocer, have teamed up to offer college students a variety of care packages that can be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the continental United States.

Students can purchase a pre-made care package or create a care package for themselves or a friend by clicking on the Peapod icon located on the efollett.com home page. Students low on cash can also submit a parent's email address and efollett.com will send an email message to Mom or Dad suggesting that they send their son or daughter a care package from Peapod.

Peapod Packages(TM) offers four care packages designed specifically for students -- the Late Night Study Buddy, the Student Snack Pack, the Healthy Snack Pack and the Microwave Meals Pack. Students and parents who choose to create a customized package can select from 7,000 non-perishable food items, health and beauty care products as well as pet merchandise and household goods. All packages are delivered within four to eight business days. Packages can be shipped to any of the 48 contiguous states for $7.95.

"With finals just around the corner, we know students will be experiencing the 'munchies' big-time. Teaming with Peapod provides a way for efollett.com to keep these students going strong during finals." said Tim Dorgan, senior vice president of ecommerce for Follett Higher Education Group.

"Since launching Peapod Packages at the beginning of the fourth quarter, we are experiencing dramatic growth and we're excited about this partnership with efollett," said Roberta McKeever, product manager for Peapod Packages. "Peapod Packages provides a convenient solution for busy parents who seek a way to take care of their kids while they're away at school. efollett's high visibility with the college market will enable Peapod to effectively reach both students and their parents."

Follett pioneered online textbook retailing in August 1995 when it developed its first Web site. By 1996, Follett had more than 50 Web sites and celebrated its 100th site in August 1998. In January of 1999, Follett created efollett.com, a central Web site that channels students to textbook information and distribution capabilities at more than 600 Follett campus bookstores.

Today, Follett's "click and mortar" strategy has been extended to independently managed bookstores and now serves more than 4 million students and has online booklists for more than 1,000 college campuses including, Georgetown University, Rutgers University, University of California Los Angeles, University of Notre Dame, Michigan State University, and University of Alabama. Through its partnerships with 1,000 college campuses, efollett.com offers immediate access to more than 16 million textbooks that can be picked up on-campus or delivered anywhere around the world.

Peapod, Inc., "Your Personal Grocer and More," is the nation's leading Internet grocer, providing consumers with broad product choices for local and national grocery delivery service. With 1998 revenues of $69 million, the Company currently provides services locally in eight metropolitan markets in the United States, and nationwide through its "Peapod Packages" service.
