Sexy and Gray? 90% of Women and 75% of Men Say, 'Gray Hair Is Sexy!'

Boomers Find Gray Hair More Appealing than Before; Changing Attitudes Help Shift Perceptions

- - - -

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 50 and sexy? The AARP says its so! But can gray hair be sexy? Baby boomers in overwhelming numbers say yes!

A recent research study from Bruskin/Goldring Research, in which 644 people ages 35 and over were surveyed (285 male, 359 female), clearly details this attitudinal shift that proves that not only is 50 sexy -- so is gray!

-- Nearly 90% of the women surveyed in some way felt that people with gray hair can be sexy (62.8% agreed strongly, 25.7% agreed somewhat).

-- 75% of men surveyed in some way felt that people with gray hair can be sexy (47% agreed strongly, 28.6% agreed somewhat).

-- Nearly 90% of 35 to 49 year-olds surveyed felt that people with gray hair can be sexy (58.7% agreed strongly, 28.9% agreed somewhat).

-- Gray has a nationwide appeal. (Apparently it's not just a Florida thing.)

- North East - 80.6% (54% agreed strongly, 26.6% agreed somewhat)

- North Central - 83% (48.9% agreed strongly, 34.1% agreed somewhat)

- South - 83% (61.5% agreed strongly, 21.5% agreed somewhat)

- West - 84.4% (57% agreed strongly, 27.4% agreed somewhat)

-- The wealthier people are, the sexier they find gray hair to be. The $50,000 and over income bracket showed a significant increase over the $20,000 and under income bracket in the number of people who felt that people with gray hair can be sexy.

- 87.4% of people in the $50,000 and over income bracket in some way felt that people with gray hair can be sexy (61.3% agreed strongly, 26.1% agreed somewhat).

- 76.6% of people in the $20,000 and under income bracket in some way felt that people with gray hair can be sexy (44.9% agreed strongly, 31.7% agreed somewhat).

-- When asked if they would let their hair gray naturally or dye it, 86.4% of men and 52.2% of women said they would let it gray naturally.

-- Of the 301 men and women who were between the ages of 35 and 49, 62.6% of them said they would let their hair gray naturally.

-- Of the 175 men and women who were between the ages of 50 and 64, 70.4% of them said they would let their hair gray naturally.

The Bruskin/Goldring research was commissioned by Sterling Solutions(TM) founded by the father-daughter team of Victor and Robin Kiam. Victor is known to most people as the man who "liked Remington Shavers so much, he bought the company." Ever the entrepreneur, Victor Kiam recently discovered a virtually untapped niche market -- gray hair care products. In need of a beauty business expert to charter this venture, Victor turned to his daughter, Robin, who was most recently involved in the extremely successful launch and development of Bath & Body Works. Together, the two have created Sterling Solutions(TM) -- unisex hair care products specifically formulated to treat the special needs of gray hair which include anti-yellowing, extra shine and manageability.

The Sterling Solutions(TM) line of hair care products includes Volumizing Shampoo, Shampoo & Conditioner In One, Anti-Residue Clarifying Shampoo, and Silver Brightening Hair Spray. The key to Sterling Solutions(TM) is its exclusive mineral complex which enables the hair shaft to absorb the nourishing vitamins and optical brighteners contained in the products. The Sterling Solutions(TM) hair care line is available in all major drug stores, mass retailers and other fine stores. The suggested retail cost per bottle is $4.99.
