$500 MILLION! KELLOGG'S POP-TARTS SET CONVENIENCE FOOD SALES RECORD

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Kellogg Company (NYSE: K), for the first time in its 93-year history, has topped $500 million in sales of a convenience food for one year. The milestone was achieved this week with production of a box of Kellogg's Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry toaster pastries.

Kellogg President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Gutierrez presented the milestone Pop-Tarts box to William E. LaMothe, Kellogg Company chairman emeritus and board of directors member, during the company's Dec. 10 board meeting in Chicago. LaMothe led the product team that helped launch the brand in 1964 and said it remains one of his most favorite and memorable projects.

"What W.K. Kellogg began in 1906 with the launch of what would become the world's most well-known cereal, Bill helped redefine with the creation of this flagship, blockbuster convenience food," Gutierrez said. "The timeless appeal of Pop-Tarts, with an emphasis on easy preparation and portability, is even more evident in today's exploding convenience food marketplace."

Pop-Tarts provide a good source of seven vitamins and minerals and come fully baked and ready to eat, with toasting a popular option. Pop-Tarts were initially available in four flavor varieties. Today, the line includes more than 30 flavors with three new products (Wild Magicburst, Snak-Stix and Doodlers) making their debut this year.

"Little did we know, back in 1964, that this innovative pastry would one day be popping up in toasters throughout the world," LaMothe said. "It has been very gratifying to see how the brand has continued to flourish."

The brand also achieved another milestone last year when Kellogg unveiled the world's largest Pop-Tart in New York City to celebrate the product's 35th anniversary. Measuring 25 feet wide and 35 feet long, the pastry contained nearly 500 pounds of filling in the top-selling strawberry flavor.
