McSweeney’s supports the Brigid Alliance, a nonprofit that for five years has provided travel, food, lodging, child care, and other logistical support for people who need to travel to access safe abortion. Founded in 2017, the Brigid Alliance has seen the need for their services grow exponentially every year, and now the need will skyrocket. The organization provides personal, wraparound services and prioritizes individuals and communities disproportionately affected by abortion restrictions: people living at or below the federal poverty line, people of color, minors, undocumented immigrants, people living in communities with limited transportation infrastructure, individuals living in states hostile to women’s healthcare, disabled people, survivors of abuse, and those who rely on Medicaid or are uninsured. From the first phone call until the client is safe back at home, Brigid provides extraordinarily sensitive and personalized care for people who need this financial and logistical help.
