Surround yourself with positive people

Positive people will lift you up, inspire you, and bring joy into your life. Surround yourself with them. Learn from them. Drink of their endless wells of positivity. Drain them of their power — drain them until you’ve sucked them dry. Leave their desiccated shells behind. You don’t need them anymore. It is you who now has a positive attitude.

Learn to budget

Money isn’t the most important thing, but remember: it is the third most important thing.

Consider law school

If you’re feeling lost and aimless, remember that a law degree can help you in almost any field. Every person who has been president of the United States has had a law degree. Top CEOs all have degrees in law — some have two or even three. Your favorite actors? Also lawyers. Michael Phelps is a lawyer, Adele is a lawyer, and you should be a lawyer, too.

Live in the moment

Or in Portland!

Don’t compare your life to someone else’s

Comparing yourself to other people will only rob you of your own happiness. If you absolutely can’t fight the urge to compare, try comparing yourself to an animal, like a dog or a cat.

Travel

Your early twenties are a perfect time for you to go see the world because you don’t have any responsibilities to tie you down. You don’t have a career, a spouse, or a family. You don’t have a car or a house. You don’t have any money. You never read the newspaper. Your hair looks bad. I don’t like your outfit. Why are you slouching? There’s chocolate on your face. Remember: Rome is full of history.

Assert yourself

Whether at work or in your personal life, don’t be afraid to speak up and ask for what you want. Some people will respect you for it. Others might resent you. But either way, one thing is for sure: you’ll be talking out loud.

Don’t fear failure

Hey: failure is great. Everyone likes failure.

Stay out of toxic relationships

Toxic relationships deplete your mental and emotional energy. Positive relationships, on the other hand, are fulfilling and rewarding. How do you tell the difference between the two? Hoo boy. You tell me, kid. You tell me.

Wear sunscreen

This might seem like a trivial tip, but your skin is so important! You might be able to sell it one day.

Don’t take yourself too seriously

It can never hurt to remember that you’re only human. Give yourself a break! Take the pressure off once in a while. Rob one convenience store, one time, just to see how it feels.

Do what you love

You love being a lawyer.
