Defne Sheridan is a producer. She lives in New York and Los Angeles.

No, you read her bio correctly. It goes like this: Defne Sheridan is a producer. She lives in New York and Los Angeles. You might be wondering how that works logistically. But if you have to ask how someone can live in both New York and Los Angeles, then you are not ready to live in New York and Los Angeles. Shhh.

Again: Defne Sheridan is a producer. She lives in New York and Los Angeles. Sometimes Defne says she lives in Los Angeles and New York to switch things up. No matter which order the cities are in, Defne and her long-tailed chinchilla inhabit both in an equally spiritual way.

Defne transcends time and space and has a presence in New York and Los Angeles. Sometimes her art needs sun, so she goes to LA. Sometimes her art needs rain, so she goes to New York. Sun and rain, rain and sun, back and forth, for meaning-making.

For those of you reading this who are like, “Okay, but where does Defne legally live, like where does she pay taxes?” Defne needs you to close your eyes, find your breath, and imagine a ball of light traveling from the tips of your toes all the way to your solar plexus and then to the crown of your head. Bring yourself back to the center. Open your eyes. Let’s reread the bio.

Defne Sheridan is a producer. She lives in New York and Los Angeles. That’s it. She lives in New York. And also in Los Angeles. With her chinchilla. Defne is nodding and looking at you. Both places. At the same time.

Defne’s next film, Ephemera, is out this fall.

In fact, Defne does get mail in New York and Los Angeles. Yes, she does. Defne arranges for every bill to be sent to both apartments. Defne knows that it sounds complicated, but it’s actually better than having a bill sent to just one residence, because if you lose one bill, you can always fly to the other apartment and find the duplicate. Defne doesn’t do stuff online, so that’s not a point to make anyway. She likes holding paper in her hands, even medical bills that insurance isn’t covering, because Defne doesn’t need insurance. The universe is Defne’s insurance.

Speaking of which, Defne also has two primary care physicians—one in New York and one in Los Angeles—and they love working as a team to support Defne’s health. Defne knows this because she could sense their co-primary-care-physician life force coming strong from the fax machine she used to arrange this collaboration. How it works is, if the New York doctor is doing Defne’s annual physical, the Los Angeles doctor flies to New York for fifteen minutes to make sure they agree with everything. These physicians have been particularly helpful with UTIs that Defne has been getting lately in New York and Los Angeles.

Tick-tock-tick-tock. Defne lives in New York and Los Angeles. You are getting sleepy. When Defne snaps her fingers, you will have an innate understanding that she lives in both cities and never ask which one she technically spends more time in. Defne Sheridan is a producer and she thinks about time more qualitatively, like so many days in New York and also so many days in Los Angeles.

Defne couldn’t tell you which city she lives in more. She is shaking her head and raising her bangled arms to the sky, feeling the message of both cities—tacos and pizza, crystals and acorns, UTIs at the beach and UTIs at the museum—because she lives in New York and Los Angeles.

Defne Sheridan is a producer. She lives in New York and Los Angeles. One city alone couldn’t hold her aura, her chinchilla’s accessories, and her UTI-related medical bills. See more of her work at DefneLivesinNYCandLA.com
